However, the celebrations took a violent turn in Mhow, located in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district. During one such rally near Jama Masjid, an individual allegedly threw a firecracker inside the mosque, triggering clashes.
Indore Collector Ashish Singh confirmed that at least 13 people have been arrested, with the National Security Act (NSA) invoked against some of the accused. He assured that the situation is now under control.
"One side claims that firecrackers were set off outside a mosque, while the other alleges incidents of stone-throwing. We are investigating the matter and will take action based on the evidence," he stated.
The DIG further mentioned that while the situation is currently peaceful, a heavy police presence has been deployed across the town to maintain order.
On Sunday night, Indore Rural Superintendent of Police Hitika Vasal reported that during celebratory rallies following the India-New Zealand match, some individuals ignited firecrackers outside a mosque, leading to stone-throwing from both sides.
